The Duck Dynasty cast and Robertson family are very outspoken when it comes to their conservative values and Christian beliefs. There’s no exception in the family when it comes to talking about sex. This includes the fact that Sadie Robertson is a virgin, and plans to stay that way until marriage. Here’s what the teen had to say about it.
Sadie Robertson wants teens her age to hear it from her, you can stay pure and still be cool. Sadie wrote her book Live Original to show teens how to stay true to themselves and God throughout their lives. She told Inside Edition that she chose to write the book because she was feeling frustrated and unable to get all of her thoughts out during her speaking engagements. She wanted to put her message on paper and be able to edit and think about what she wanted to say with out a live audience.
Sadie’s Three Rules
In the book, Sadie talks about what she calls “staying pure,” until marriage. This means abstaining from sex until marriage. She laid out three rules to follow to help fellow teens accomplish this challenge.
- Don’t be home alone together.
- Stay out of each others bedrooms.
- Pray together before dates.
These are the three rules Sadie believes are the key to a successful abstaining relationship. It’s unclear if she got these rules from friends or family, or if she came up with them herself. Many Christian leaders and churches set aside guidelines for dating in your teens. When Sadie was a contestant on Dancing With The Stars, it was often a headline that her father didn’t approve of her scandalous costumes. However, it appears the decision and rules are all Sadie’s and she’s come to these conclusions and beliefs on her own.
A God-Centered Relationship
Sadie has her fair share of dating stories. This year, she broke up with football player, Trevor Knight. Previously, she had been famously attached to Blake Coward. Sadie said, “It’s important to keep God at the top of the relationship because if you keep God at the top — Hey! Things are going pretty good for ya.”
Sadie was very public about her relationship with Coward. The two would post photos with each other constantly, and often attended church together. Coward even traveled to some of Sadie’s Live Original performances.
Keep Yourself From Temptation
Sadie Robertson believes it’s important to stick to her three rules to keep herself from temptation. “You could be the strongest Christian in the world, but when you’re home alone together it just adds that pressure maybe,” she told Inside Edition. “It’s just good to not put yourself in a position that you might have to stand up for yourself.”
Teens Talking to Teens
Sadie wants other teens to know they are not alone. She said, “As teenagers we always get the talk from adults. It’s one thing to hear it from someone that went through it and that’s older than you, but it’s another thing to hear it from someone that’s going through it with you.” She added, “It’s good to show that you can be different and still be cool!”
Sadie aims to spread a message of individuality and Christian values through her many tour dates and speaking engagements.
