Phil Robertson May Have Said The Most Controversial Thing Of His Career Yet

The Harvey Weinstein scandal continues to be a hot discussion topic in the media and on social media. More than 40 people have come forward and accused the Hollywood producer of sexual harassment. However, this week Phil Robertson seemed to suggest that the perpetrator should be forgiven for his unthinkable acts.

Phil Robertson’s Forgiveness

The Robertson family is known for their unwavering Christian faith. They believe in Jesus above all else, and they also believe in his redemptive grace. However, perhaps they’ve taken it a bit too far…or perhaps too soon.

Just a week or so after Harvey Weinstein’s scandal broke, Phil Robertson felt the need to remind his fans that he should be forgiven. Phil said, “The whole world is under the control of the evil one…Satan has taken them captive to do his will…evil doesn’t need a motive. All it needs is Satan, working in people, prompting people.” Phil’s words make it seem like Weinstein isn’t the one who allegedly committed the harassment. Instead, he says the devil was working through him.

Phil then said, “We give them the bad news first,” he said. “But you know what, we don’t need to forget something…Weinstein can be forgiven. Don’t forget that.” Some fans found the comment to be inappropriate. They wondered what the victims of Weinstein would think about his forgiveness.

Lastly, Phil alluded to his sins. He said, “I’ve had some pretty raunchy sins in my first 28 years on the earth…Grace is far better than law. Grace says all your past sins can be removed and never counted against you again.” Phil and his family have all admitted to tough pasts. Miss Kay Robertson has written about her husband’s infidelity and alcoholism. She said, “I knew then, but I didn’t want to believe it; [he] was running around on me. And what I would tell my boys all the time is, ‘That’s not your daddy. That’s the devil in your daddy.’”

However, fans are quick to point out that infidelity between two consenting adults and sexual harassment are two very different crimes.

Do you disagree with Phil Robertson? Can Harvey Weinstein ever be forgiven?
