Phil Robertson isn’t afraid to laugh at himself. He has never claimed to be the most intelligent or educated man in the room. However, he does think he has a lot to share.
Phil Robertson Called Himself a C Plus Man
Phil Robertson doesn’t claim to be MENSA certified. He’s not interested in writing word renowned novels, or curing cancer. Instead, he wants to spread the message of Jesus in lay man’s terms.
In a Facebook Live video, Phil Robertson said, “We’re C plus. I’m a C plus man. I’m not going to get deep. But I know A plus men. C plus men, like myself- we’re smarter than half of them.” Phil believes that grades aren’t the most important thing. He went on to say, “In the middle see. Couple of rungs underneath us, couple of rungs above us.”
Successful C Students
Phil isn’t unique in his C plus success. Many studies have shown that students who receive C’s (meaning average) grades are actually likely to succeed in business and real world endeavors. Many successful politicians, including Al Gore and John McCain, were not straight A students. Both Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg are college dropouts. Gates once said, “I studied every thing but never topped… But today the toppers of the best universities are my employees.” Even Walt Disney previously dropped out of school.
Why does this phenomenon ring true? Perhaps it is because hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work. The smartest, brightest, most intelligent kids may know all the answers on the test, but if they don’t have the perseverance and gumption to start their own businesses, to try and to fail, they will never get anywhere in life.
