“Liberty begins and ends in a nation, with God.” So says Phil Robertson. In an address to the Western Conservative Summit, Robertson said, “God who gave us life, gave us liberty. God did.”
Phil Robertson, of Duck Dynasty fame asked the question “Can the liberties of a nation be thought secure, when we’ve removed their only firm basis?” He went on to explain that a conviction in the minds of the people, that these liberties are a gift from God are the only hope for a nation’s survival.
“It was God who brought us here–and guns.”
“The liberties are a gift from God, they are not to be violated, but by his wrath. Indeed. I tremble. I tremble for my country, when I contemplate that my God is just. And His justice cannot sleep forever.” Robertson quoted Thomas Jefferson
Phil Robertson, talking to the crowd of conservatives, explained it’s not about Republican or Democrat, or even conservatism for him. He says, he doesn’t talk about that. Because it doesn’t matter. It all falls under one heading– found in 1 John.
“We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the One who was born of God keeps them safe, and the evil one cannot harm them.” 1John 5:18
Either you are following God, in the liberty he has given you. Or you are following under the control of the evil one.
“How many did we lose in Iraq and Afghanistan? With all that firepower. How many did we lose? 6-7000 thousand. At the same time of those wars, right here in America 160,000 were murdered. We’ve got a bigger war going on over here than over there.”
Robertson explained that when you let people, mere human beings, decide for you what is right and what is wrong, then you will have exactly the kind of world we are currently living in.
“Ladies, you will never, ever, catch this cat coming up in your bathroom. Ever. You know why? I am a man. And men don’t go in women’s bathrooms.”
“When you let human beings decide what is good and evil–look out.”
We are going to lose America, warned Robertson. According to the 70 year-old Patriarch we are well into the collapse. “America’s problem is that America doesn’t know what its problem. It’s sin.”
He went on to list the depravity that has pushed us to the edge, and how God hates the shedding of innocent blood–and yet we legislate it.
George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Maddison, John Monroe all have one thing in common with Robertson, he pointed out. They knew that the only way to keep our nation under the protection of God, was not to violate the liberty God has given us.
Make it your ambition to lead a quite life. To mind your own business. To work with your own hands so that you will earn the respect of outsiders. So that you will not be dependent on anybody. 1 Thessalonians 4:17
Instead of living this out, as we once did in America, “We have replaced biblical correctness with political correctness.”
