President Trump has authorized two somewhat significant military actions in as many weeks, striking both Syria and Afghanistan. Many people, in and out of the political arena, have questioned exactly what this means. Some fear that Trump is backpedaling on his promise to not drag America into another war.

Others believe that it is something far more simpler. He is sending a clear and decisive message to America’s enemies that after a decade of weak foreign policy, we aren’t going take it anymore. While the president admitted he did not order the dropping of the MOAB on Afghanistan, he did say he endorsed it.

Foreign policy experts believed the strike did not only boost his image as a strong leader, but it was also a signal to North Korea that Trump will not bow to their threats. When reporters asked President Trump if the bombing was a message for Kim Jong-Un, he said it wasn’t. However, he also said it “doesn’t make a difference if they received it as one, telling reporters:

“It doesn’t make any difference if it does or not — North Korea is a problem, the problem will be taken care of,”

Over the last week, the president has been presented with several options to deal with the communist regime, including increased economic sanctions and moving nukes back to S. Korea. He also recently redirected the USS Carl Vinson carrier group towards the Korean peninsula.

In response, Kim Jong-Un has threatened nuclear war in the event of any provocation from the U.S. We could all most likely agree that while we don’t want another senseless war, sometimes war is necessary. For the sake of our children’s futures, we cannot afford to allow a highly unstable dictator to run wild with nuclear weapons.  Regardless of whether he is willing to accept credit for it, that is the message President Trump is sending.
