The “Bulldog” is Back
Source Credit: The Political Cult Trey Gowdy may not have been appointed as Trump’s attorney general, but that didn’t stop him from defending the man who was. Then again, there isn’t much that stops the South Carolina congressman affectionately known as “the bulldog.”
Gowdy worked on the House Select Committee on Benghazi and has relentlessly pursued the truth about the night that saw four American lose their lives. He is definitely no fan of Hillary Clinton either.
Now he is taking on the media and Democrats once again. This time, it is the Russia/Sessions allegations that have him speaking out. Gowdy appeared recently on a syndicated radio show hosted by Mike Gallagher, and as expected, he didn’t hold back.
Speaking directly about the calls for Sessions to resign as AG, Gowdy pointedly addressed their hypocrisy saying:

“The reality is Jeff Sessions is not going to be in the courtroom prosecuting this case. If it was good enough for the media for Holder and Lynch, look â it exposes their hypocrisy all of the sudden about Sessions, but did you ever hear the media call for special counsel for President Obama? I feel like I’m watching ‘The Notebook.’ They’ve fallen in love with the special counsel regulation they didn’t know existed a few months ago.”

Sessions Recusal

As a former prosecutor, the congressman is well aware of how even the appearance of a conflict of interest can decrease the legitimacy of the results. Knowing this, Gowdy stated that the AG “did the correct thing in recusing himself”.
“I thought it was the right decision. You should recuse yourself, obviously, if there’s an actual conflict, but you should frankly recuse yourself if there’s a perception of a conflict which would impact people’s ability to trust the result and the process.”
Unfortunately, as Gowdy should know, Trump’s opponents won’t trust “the process” unless they get the outcome they want. This is perhaps why the president was upset at Sessions decision to remove himself from the investigation he considers a “witch hunt.” Despite recusing himself, Sessions has denied any wrongdoing.
