Grand Jury Sends Out Subpoenas

A federal grand jury just gave FBI agents subpoenas to inspect Hillary Clinton’s BlackBerry devices from last year. The watchdog group, Judicial Watch, said FBI counterintelligence official E. W. Priestap said the FBI “obtained Grand Jury subpoenas related to the BlackBerry e-mail accounts.”
Priestap also swore the subpoenas “produced no responsive materials, as the requested data was outside the retention time utilized by those providers.” He also supervised the original FBI investigation into Clinton’s mismanagement of classified information.
This investigation came about as Hillary Clinton had used a private email server with her personal BlackBerries, which she used to send and receive business emails while she was Secretary of State. Thousands of classified messages went in and out.

The Daily Caller reports:
“Priestap’s declaration is the first official acknowledgment that a grand jury was used in the Clinton email investigation. But the declaration raises new questions because of various reports stating that a grand jury never was convened as part of the probe. It is unclear what other actions the grand jury took in the email investigation.”
“FBI Director James Comey ultimately announced on July 5 that he would not be recommending charges against Clinton for mishandling classified information.”

ABC News reports:
“The FBI last July closed its investigation into Clinton’s use of a private email server without recommending charges for the former secretary of state or anyone else. But since then, Republican-led congressional committees have made multiple referrals of their own to the Justice Department for potential prosecution.”
“One referral sought an investigation into whether Clinton, the Democratic presidential nominee in 2016, had lied to Congress. A second referral was about whether Clinton or others who worked with her played a role in the deletion of thousands of her emails.”
“In February, another referral was sent seeking criminal charges against the computer specialist who helped establish Clinton’s email server. Democrats have called the referrals politically motivated and a waste of time.”
