Fans Absolutely Love Easter Eggs

Fans love Easter Eggs and shared universes, which are becoming more and more popular as comic book adaptations are made into movies and series. One such link that keeps coming up is the connection between Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead.

In the past, some connections between the two included Glenn’s car, which was the same type of Charger Walter White blew up and there was also a bag of drugs that were Merle’s that looked like Heisenberg’s blue meth.

The most recent connection comes in the form of Fear the Walking Dead.

“I tried to be subtle with it,” said Dave Erickson about the latest connection to the Breaking Bad universe. He’s referring to Sunday night’s premiere and a song that played while Madison Clark was entering a Bazar in Mexico.

The song, “Negro y Azul: The Ballad of Heisenberg,” which was also in the seventh episode of Breaking Bad’s second season, played in the background. The song tells the story of a man who heads a major drug circle.

“That was probably the moment when I fell the most deeply in love with Breaking Bad, when they did that cold open music video,” said Erickson. “As we were looking for pieces to incorporate into this world, it had the right vibe to it. It’s a gentle nod of admiration and adoration to Vince Gilligan.”

“Janky Little White Guy…”

Back when The Walking Dead originally referenced Breaking Bad with Merle’s bag of drugs it also made reference to Jesse from the series. “Merle had this dealer,” said Daryl Dixon. “This janky little white guy…”

It’s possible that could just be a random character, but it certainly sounds like an early version of Jesse Pinkman, who was played by Aaron Paul. There hasn’t been a concrete example that definitely connects the two, but it’s certainly a possibility.

Do you think Walter White’s meth leads to the zombie apocalypse?
