Facebook Encourages Staff To Protest Trump

Facebook Inc. announced that they will not chastise any employees that fail to show up for work and join the pro-immigrant protests in May. In addition, with the hopes to honor Facebook’s shuttle-bus drivers and security staff, they will also investigate if any vendors illegal crack down on their worker’s right to protest.
The social media giant notified employees of this policy during an internal forum on April 14, 2017. The invitation to protest said that they can leave on May 1 for the protest whether or not they alert senior staff ahead of time.
A Facebook spokesperson emailed the following comment:
“At Facebook, we’re committed to fostering an inclusive workplace where employees feel comfortable expressing their opinions and speaking up. We support our people in recognizing International Workers’ Day and other efforts to raise awareness for safe and equitable employment conditions.”
Tech Firms Fight Trump Travel Ban
Bloomberg Technology reports:
“Many tech companies have been vocal in their opposition to aspects of Trump’s agenda. Facebook has criticized Trump’s immigration moves. At a rally in January at Google’s headquarters in Mountain View, California, CEO Sundar Pichai and co-founder Sergey Brin spoke against Trump’s executive order that closed U.S. borders to people from several majority-Muslim nations.”
“Both companies, along with Apple Inc., Microsoft Corp. and Intel Corp., are among more than 120 firms that signed a February court filing opposing the travel ban.”
Mark Zuckerberg Stands Against Trump

CNET reports:
“Facebook CEO and co-founder Mark Zuckerberg is an outspoken critic of Trump’s immigration policies, calling the US ‘a nation of immigrants.’ The social network is one of many Silicon Valley companies to benefit from immigrant tech talent. Earlier this year, the industry came together to protest Trump’s executive order temporarily banning travel and immigration from seven mostly Muslim countries.”
“On Tuesday, Trump is expected to sign an executive order that would tighten restrictions on H-1B visas, which are widely used by Silicon Valley companies and others to bring in highly skilled workers from overseas. Facebook did not immediately respond to a request for comment.”
