Mainstream media is at it again.

The latest headlines from CNN, Reuters, Fox, etc., are all touting that President-elect Trump’s phone call FROM Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen is causing a major rift in U.S.-China relations. As usual, this is nothing more than MSM pushing a false narrative, hoping to continue herding their sheep.

The Phone Call

The phone call causing the stir was actually a congratulatory call from Taiwanese leadership. The President-elect received hundreds of these phone calls since his historic victory over opponent Hillary Clinton.

Trump, acknowledging the main’s rhetoric regarding the phone call, posted on his Twitter account confirming why the call was made.

The Trump transition team issued a statement saying, “Trump and Tsai noted that close economic, political, and security ties exist between Taiwan and the United States.” Most assuredly, they were referring to the billions of dollars in arms the U.S. has sold to Taiwan since 1979.

U.S. Arms Sales

Beginning with former President Jimmy Carter in the 70’s, America has sold more than $1.8 billion dollars in weapons and defense items to Taiwan. President Barack Obama was not an exception.

A document from the U.S. State department in 2000, lists the “major defense items” and services provided to Taiwan at a total cost of $122 million. You can find all the documents related to arms sales to the Taiwanese government at the United States Government Publishing Office by clicking here and searching for “Taiwan”.

Trump also acknowledged the blatant hypocrisy of the left regarding the phone call on Twitter. He tweeted, “Interesting how the U.S. sells Taiwan billions of dollars of military equipment but I should not accept a congratulatory call.” As it turns out, Taiwan may have a legitimate complaint against China

ROC and PRC

At the end of the Chinese Civil War between the Republic of China and the Communist Party of China, there were two governments. The People’s Republic of China (PRC) and the Republic of China (ROC). The latter fled to Taiwan in 1949 with the hope of retaking mainland China.

The major dispute between the ROC and PRC stems back to the ROC’s award of Taiwan from Japan in 1945. The PRC has since claimed control over Taiwan, based on the “One China” policy.

The Taiwanese Independence Movement has asserted that Japan did not name a successor state. Therefore, the people should decide on the sovereignty of the two territories. The PRC has continuously fought against Taiwan independence using threats of military force to intimidate Taiwan’s leadership into reunification.

Trump’s Phone Call First Since 1978?

MSM has also asserted that this was the first call since 1978 between a president or president-elect of the U.S. and a Taiwanese president. Even IF no direct phone calls have occurred between presidents, it is safe to presume that all have actively engaged in helping Taiwan.

The U.S. has a $300-billion-dollar trade deficit with communist China. We are pretty sure President-elect Trump knows that Taiwan is not the problem. China’s problem is they know it too.
