CNN is taking on a new role this holiday season as the media Grinch. Affectionately known to conservatives as the “Clinton News Network,” the left-leaning media giant announced they are skipping the annual White House Christmas party. Their reason? President Trump.
The party, scheduled for December 1, is typically an opportunity for the press and White House staff to put politics aside and celebrate the season.
While CNN, frequently labeled as “fake news” by the president, was invited, they are boycotting in protest. The network issued a statement explaining their temper tantrum.
“CNN will not be attending this year’s White House Christmas party. In light of the president’s continued attacks on freedom of the press and CNN, we do not feel it is appropriate to celebrate with him as his invited guests. We will send a White House reporting team to the event, and report on it if news warrants.”
Ironically, “freedom of the press” has taken on new meaning since Trump became president. Where CNN is concerned, they feel free to stage fake Muslim protests, blackmail meme creators, and to push Russia stories they admit aren’t true.
You just know they are in the newsroom singing, “You’re a mean one, Mr. Trump.”
White House Responds
On several occasions, President Trump has taken to social media to voice his displeasure with their biased reporting. “While in the Philippines I was forced to watch @CNN, which I have not done in months, and again realized how bad, and FAKE, it is,” he said. “Loser!”
Just this week, the president took another shot at the network. He suggesting there should be “fake news trophy” for the worst news outlet. “We should have a contest as to which of the Networks, plus CNN and not including Fox, is the most dishonest, corrupt and/or distorted in its political coverage…” Trump tweeted.
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders issued an epic response to CNN’s announcement. Sharing the Politico story on Twitter, Sanders was grateful for their gift. “Christmas comes early!” she tweeted. “Finally, good news from @CNN.”
