The September 11th terrorist attack prompted changes in the way Americans had to prove their identity. One of the biggest changes came from the REAL ID Act of 2005. Title II, known as the “Improved Security for Driver’s License and Personal Identification Cards,” changed the way citizens applied for a new or renewed license or identification card.
A REAL ID compliant card must list an individual’s full legal name, date of birth, and gender among other things. Most of this information is customarily verified from the individual’s birth certificate. However, D.C. is now choosing to ignore that requirement, by allowing people to list “X” as the gender on their DL.
The change not only mocks the seriousness of gender dysphoria, but it clearly stands as a direct violation of federal law. The whole purpose of the REAL ID Act is to know exactly who an individual is, simply by examining their identification. Then there is the risk of those pesky little things called lawsuits, which will no doubt arise from someone being “misgendered.”
Imagine being a police officer and arresting a biological male for drunk driving who has an “X” on their government issued driver’s license. When you take them to jail are they placed with the men or the women? We all know what happens from there. The problems that will be created by this political stunt are too numerous to list, but rest assured they will inevitably land in the pockets of taxpayers.
Sadly, that never seems to be a concern for liberal politicians. Announcing the change last week, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser stated the change was intended to “improve the health and wellbeing of all Washingtonians.” Bowser added that the new ID options “aligns District gender identity policies with D.C. values.”
Seriously, who are they kidding? They don’t value the health and wellbeing of Washingtonians-they care about votes. D.C. has the largest percentage of LGBT population in the nation with approximately 10 percent, more than double the national average. If this isn’t pandering, what is?
