Ten Tips on Meditation

Meditation is a wonderful way to reconnect with yourself. Returning to source on a daily basis is healthy for all parts of your being. Your body benefits from meditation on a physiological level. Your mind relaxes and your soul returns to source.

There are zero negative side effects to meditation. Meditating is something that you practice anytime at any place. Below are ten tips on meditation to help achieve inner peace without effort. (Really, if you’re trying when meditating, you’re doing it wrong… Just let go.)

Make Time Every day to Meditate

Meditation has an accumulative effect to it. Each day builds upon the last, and just 20 minutes a day will change your life over the course of a few years. As Deepak Chopra says, “meditate for 30 minutes a day. If you don’t have time for 30 minutes, meditate for 60 minutes.”

Even though he says 30 minutes, 20 minutes is a great time to start with. And you’ll notice effects nearly immediately. Just make sure you take time every day to do it. As Jeff Olson says in the Slight Edge, “the things that are easy to do every day, are also easy not to do every day.”

Let Go of All Worries and Cares

Remember what I said about “trying?” Well, the very basis of meditation is to let go. To achieve true relaxation, you want to let go of all your worries and your cares. Let go of the mental chatter. As I say it, allow your thoughts to come, then simply let them fall away. Imagine them coming to your then peacefully detaching and fading into nothing.

Pick a Safe and Quiet Space to Meditate

When you begin your practice, pick a place that is safe and soundless. Being one with silence is one of the most healing experiences you can have. You’ll notice the effects immediately. If you listen, you’ll notice that silence speaks. It’s in the silence, many people have their greatest spiritual breakthroughs.

Try Meditating with a Fragrance

To relax even further while meditating, try using incense or candles while meditating. The aromatic effects of herbs like lavender, sage and rosemary are astounding for relaxing the soul. Allow the scents to fill you and resonate with you at a core level.

Remove All Distractions

Ten Tips On MeditationMake sure you are free from distractions. Shut off cell phones, TV’s, alarms, and make sure to tell people to leave you be for the period you are meditating. Meditating while free from distractions is one of the essential steps to reaching inner peace.

Study Meditation

It’s important to understand your practice. Read books on meditation like The Art of Happiness by the Dalai Lama. Or read other books on spirituality like The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle, Against the Stream by Noah Levine and the Secret by Rhonda Byrne, which is a great one.

Experiment and Have Fun

Try different types of meditations. Maybe perform Yoga one day, go on a walking meditation, or try visualizations. Guided meditations work great as well and you can find them all over YouTube. You can even record your own guided meditation in your own voice.

Imagine Healing Light Radiating Through Your Body

Allow yourself to bask in the healing light of source. Imagine it in any color you can think of. Blue, white, gold and lavender are the most common, but whatever makes you feel safe, healed and comfortable is works. Meditation is all about you and your ability to heal yourself. With consistent practice, you’ll learn more about your body then you can possibly imagine.

Eat Light Prior to Meditating

Try not to eat any heavy foods prior to meditating. Preferably fruits and nuts, or salad are ideal foods prior to meditating. I personally would rather not eat before I meditate. But that is just a personal preference.

Slowly Open Your Eyes

Once your meditation is complete, slowly return your awareness to the present moment. Open your eyes slowly. Let yourself return to the present moment with gentleness. Remember to congratulate yourself for the time you allotted for healing.
