Pokémon GO is already one of the most widespread and most popular games to ever hit the world and an expansion is obviously in the works. While Niantic is a little more secretive than we would like, there are features that will no doubt appear once the second generation of Pokémon are out. So, what would we expect of this new generation? The answer is New Pokémons, New Evolutions and Baby Pokémon.

NEW POKÉMON

pokemon-starter-gen-2

Every new generation has its new Pokémon and the stars of generation 2’s new Pokémon are its starters. Chikorita, Totodile and Cyndaquil are the Johto region’s starters and like almost all starters, they mirror Bulbasaur, Squirtle and Charmander’s elemental rock, paper, scissors. Other fan favorites from generation 2  include:

  • The Mareep line (Mareep, Flaafy, Ampharos)
  • The infamous Shuckle, Skarmory
  • The Larvitar line (Larvitar, Pupitar and Tyranitar)

These fan favorites and more will appear once the generation 2 update goes live.

NEW EVOLUTIONS

What would the new generation be without new evolutions? Pokemon favorites from the original generation will have new and more powerful forms. This time around, we’ll be getting 2 new eeveelutions getting our total up to 5 possible evolutions for Eevee. Old Pokemon getting new evolutions are:

  1. Golbat evolving to Crobat
  2. Poliwhirl can now evolve either to Politoed or Poliwrath
  3. Eevee can now evolve to Espeon or Umbreon (and the rumors are they’re going to be tied to the day/night cycle)
  4. Slowbro can evolve to Slowking (but you can still hold on to your Slowbro for a Mega Slowbro once mega evolutions are out)
  5. Onix evolving to Steelix
  6. Scyther to Scizor
  7. Seadra can now gain Dragon-type if it evolves to Kingdra
  8. Porygon to Porygon-2
  9. Chansey can now evolve to Blissey

BABY POKÉMON

Generation 2 also introduces baby Pokémon into the mix. While very cute, most baby Pokémon aren’t fit for battle and in the main games and they also need friendship to evolve into their adult forms. Pokémon GO might require us to set a baby Pokémon as a buddy and walk a set distance so they can evolve (or just use boring old candies to evolve them). The new Baby Pokémon are:

  1. Pichu, Pikachu’s baby form
  2. Cleffa, who showed Clefairy can be cuter
  3. Igglybuff, a much adorable Jigglypuff
  4. Togepi, who appears in the Pokémon anime/cartoon even in Generation 1
  5. Smoochum, Jynx’s lighter-skinned baby sister
  6. Elekid, an Electabuzz you can plug to your wall socket
  7. Magby, Magmar on his afro-loving days
  8. Tyrogue, Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee’s baby form. It can also evolve into Hitmontop.
