When The Walking Dead Season 8 trailer dropped at Comic Con, fans were worried. The short trailer played like a mini-movie, but the ending startled fans. The image of Old Man Rick made many wonder if it was “all a dream…”

Some conspiracy-level fans believe that the entire series will end up being a dream in Rick’s head. After Rick got shot in the pilot, they do not believe that he really woke up in the hospital.

They think he’s making up the entire storyline while in a coma. Showrunner Scott Gimple wants to clear up this myth.

The showrunner said that we’ll get a short look at Old Man Rick but things won’t be clear until later. This is interesting, since there’s a major time lapse in the comic. It could mean that the show will play with its linear timeline this season.

“I will say that we won’t know exactly what that’s about after the first episode,” Gimple said. “But we will know it about halfway through the season. We won’t quite know what it’s about, and then we’ll get an answer to that about halfway through. It’s something that’s going to play out.”

Point blank he then said it’s not the hospital-coma-wake-up some fans believe.

Andrew Lincoln said the new storytelling device was “neat.” Based on the fact that Season 7 ended by showing a new clip of Abraham Ford, anything is game. This could mean more cameos or new character introductions from the future.

It’s hard to imagine that the series would follow the exact time lapse from the comic. If it did, it would skip over Maggie’s baby being born. This isn’t something a series would like pass over.

Rather than taking a typical time lapse, they could simply play with the design of the show. Lost did this in the final season. They could show the future and the past. We’ve also seen this experiment in Rick’s mind with the dinner table scene.

Do you think we’ll see a timelapse in the mid Season 8 finale?
