Can The Scavengers Ever Be Trusted?

Last season, everyone thought Rick Grimes lost his mind when that smile crept across his face in the junkyard. In his mind, however, he knew that these Scavengers (also known as Heapsters) could work to his advantage as an army.
When he needed them most, however, Jadis and her group double-crossed him. With Negan beating on his door, Rick turned to discover his new ally had metaphorically stabbed him in the back.
Then, she literally shot him in the gut.
A Grey Area Between Good And Evil

In Robert Kirkman’s comic book, it’s very clear that there are good guys and bad guys. On AMC, the lines are a little greyer. Eugene, Dwight and maybe even Gregory are all straddling the line between good and evil.
Then, there are the Scavengers. At the end of last season, it appeared that they were going to be with Negan either way. However, they probably expected for Rick to simply back down.
Now that the Scavengers have seen Hilltop and the Kingdom join in, perhaps they’ll reconsider. If the Scavengers do decide to work with Rick Grimes, how could he trust them?
Rumors About The Junkyard Villains

Rick Grimes will do anything to win the war. However, this could mean working with someone who shot him and a group who tried to kill Michonne. Rick is as likely to kill them as he is to ask them to join his group once more.
Many fans would like to see Rick take out the Scavengers and the Saviors, but he may need one to kill the other. With their help, however, it’s possible he could use them to get some inside help.
It’s also unclear how well Negan and the Scavengers know one another. More than likely, Negan made them an offer but they’ve had little contact otherwise. Rick, on the other hand, he knows where they live and work.
When actress Pollyanna McIntosh signed on to be a Season 8 regular, it was clear the Scavengers will be around in one way or another. If they don’t join Rick, it’s possible that another rumor could come true.
Kirkman has denied it, but some fans believe the Scavengers will become the Whisperers.
