Keeping Secrets On Set The Walking Dead
Everyone knows that The Walking Dead does everything they can to keep storylines and major plot points a secret, and this has never been more true than with the Abraham flashback last season.
Actor Michael Cudlitz had a time trying to hide the two major secrets around his character last season. He couldn’t let it slip that he was going to be killed off and then he had to keep it a secret that he was going to appear in a flashback.
This is hard for a person who doesn’t naturally have a red mustache and crew cut.
Holding On To The “Abraham Look”
“For me, the biggest thing was the look. You know, keep the red hair and keep the mustache,” said the actor. These two staples were crucial for the character, but they’re not exactly natural for the actor.
Cudlitz did a lot of work for fans as if he was being watched by the FBI. He purposely made sure he was seen in other locations to keep chatter focused elsewhere. This way, the fans wouldn’t pick up on the fact that he was returning to the show.
This meant traveling a great deal.
Keeping Up Appearances For Fans
“I had pictures saved up that I would put out on my Twitter account and I’d talk about Atlanta when I wasn’t there,” said Cudlitz. “When I was there, I would make sure I photographed and tweeted and be seen as much as possible. Especially the airport — the one place where I do not use the lounge…or didn’t use the lounge.”
“I would make sure I was in line at the food court, and eating out in public. You make a big deal of it when you are there. If you’re at a hotel for the night, whatever, you make sure you at least walk out a little bit, be seen.”
“It only takes one or two people to put it out their social that they saw you, or whatever. ‘What’s he doing there? Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.’ And they take it and they run with it. They do all the work.”
Do you think we’ll see any cameos when Season 8 returns this October?
