Sheldon’s Spin-Off

Despite the information for the new Sheldon centric spin-off being kept under wraps, there is information available. If you haven’t heard about the spin-off click here.

What we do know about is show is that it has been described as a Malcolm in the Middle-esque single-camera family comedy centered on the child prodigy Sheldon character at age 12. Sheldon may be produced by Big Bang co-creator/executive producer Chuck Lorre, executive producer/showrunner Steve Molaro and Parsons. Big Bang co-creator/exec producer Bill Prady also is expected to be involved in some capacity.

Sheldon will be looking to join The Big Bang Theory on the CBS schedule next season. Big Bang is in its 10th season, the last under the current three-year pickup at CBS. The negotiations for Sheldon are said to be intertwined with the license fee talks between CBS and Warner Bros TV for future seasons of the original series. The two series are said to be designed in a way that allows them to co-exist.

Of course, with Sheldon Cooper being a fan favorite, he was a prime choice for a spin-off. However, there are other opportunities out there for other Big Bang Theory characters.

One of the most popular plot lines on the current show has the potential for more momentum. Howard and Bernadette’s story line could easily be stretched into a spin-off show. Their family life is quite interesting since Howard is Jewish and Bernadette is Catholic. Once, Howard asked how they will raise their child. This opens a lot of plot ideas. Add Raj in the mix and his bromance with Howard.

Howard Wolowitz’s Childhood

Of course, a younger actor would have to play Howard, but this would give us a chance to actually see his mother. We can actually see how Howard and her interacted when he was a child. Not to mention, Walowitz does have some skeletons in his closet from his younger days. He did lose his virginity to his cousin. That plot line might have to be toned down for TV. Or at least not be shown on prime time. It’s kind of like giving Glen Quagmire from Family Guy his own show. Giggity.

Love and Marriage: Penny and Leonard

The main plot of the original The Big Bang Theory is Leonard and Penny getting together. Now that they are married, it also opens new plotlines. They could move back in Nebraska and live the farm life with Penny’s dysfunctional family. Oh dear, Poor Leonard.

Leonard’s Childhood

Though this would be an interesting choice, it would probably be a sad show in tone. We know that Leonard’s mother, Beverley is very cold towards Leonard. She even experimented on him as a child for her own gain. This would be a shower deeper in tone and would definitely be different from the original.

I’m sure that there are even more opportunities out there. I could probably think of a whole list, if I had the time. What about a show focused on Stuart? Would you guys watch it?

Are you looking forward to the Sheldon spin off? Or do you think it’s a bad idea? Do you have any spin-off ideas of your own? Tell us about them in the comments below.
