Knowing When To Call It Quits

Based on new contracts, it’s clear that The Big Bang Theory will have at least two more seasons. Nevertheless, the actors are saying the show’s end may come sooner rather than later.

According to Raj actor Kunal Nayyar, the thinking behind ending the series is the same thought process that Jerry Seinfeld had. He felt like the story was about people of a certain age.

Seinfeld said no one wanted to see Kramer’s 50th birthday party.

Kunal Nayyar feels the same way about his character. “I mean, no-one wants to see an old, fat Raj,” Nayyar said. “I don’t know if season 12 is going to be the last season – those decisions are not up to me – but I do know for a fact that we have less [episodes to come] than we’ve already had.”

Nayyar couldn’t include too many specifics. “I’m not saying it’s the end after season 12, but we know that this incredible, special thing is going to come to an end, and sooner rather than later. So I think all of us [in the cast] are at least beginning to feel a little bit nostalgic about the time we’ve had.”

Kunal Nayyar also said that he didn’t want to walk away from something so good. Which is why they signed on for two more seasons.

It’s interesting that these thoughts are coming from Kunal Nayyar. Nayyar is arguably one of the luckiest actors on the show. He landed the role on The Big Bang Theory after only being in a handful of other projects.

Actors like Kaley Cuoco, Jim Parsons, and Johnny Galecki were all in dozens of roles before they landed anything that paid like the CBS sitcom. Both Galecki and Cuoco were on other hit shows and Parsons was in several movies and a few TV roles.

Nayyar added, “I love it. Save for a few cynical people who will always be cynical, every single person that I meet is wonderful, and it makes me happy to know how much joy we bring to their lives. I’m not going to lie – when it’s over, I’ll feel sad. This is a really beautiful golden time in my life, so I’m going to enjoy it.”

Do you think the show’s end will come after the twelveth season?
