Jake Gyllenhaal In Boston Marathon Bombing Movie
After Mark Wahlberg’s Patriots Day showed the Boston Marathon Bombing from the eyes of the police, Stronger will showcase what it was like to get injured in the bombing, along with the aftermath.
Jake Gyllenhaal and Tatiana Maslany brought the film to life as they play survivor Jeff Bauman and his girlfriend Erin Hurley. The film comes from Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions.
Bauman was at the finish line to support Hurley when the two bombs detonated back in 2013. The terrorist attack killed three people and put hundreds more into the hospital. Bauman lost his legs at the knee and wrote a memoir in 2015 about the incident, also called Stronger.
Dealing With Loss In Boston
“The trailer depicts the couple’s relationship leading up to the bombing and how they struggled to remain together as Bauman faced despair after the injury and worked to cope with his newfound position as a symbol of American and Bostonian bravery.”
“The film is directed by David Gordon Green from a script written by Boston local John Pollono, and also stars Miranda Richardson as Bauman’s mother and Clancy Brown as his father. It is produced by Lionsgate’s Summit Entertainment label, Mandeville Films, Bold Films, and Nine Stories. It’s Gyllenhaal’s first production under his Nine Stories banner.”
Attack Kills Three, Wounds Hundreds
The Hollywood Reporter writes:
“The drama from Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions recounts the true story of Jeff Bauman (Gyllenhaal), a 27-year-old, working-class Boston man who was at the marathon to try and win back his ex-girlfriend Erin (Maslany). Waiting for her at the finish line when the blast occurs, he loses both his legs in the attack, which killed three people and injured more than 260 others.”
“After helping law enforcement identify one of the bombers, he then tackles months of physical and emotional rehabilitation, with the unwavering support of Erin and his family.”
