With a series like The Walking Dead, the hardest part eventually becomes making something new and fresh. Many stories eventually outstay their welcome and fade out. But Robert Kirkman’s comic has managed to stand the test of time.

If there’s any problem with the comic from Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard, it’s that the newer characters. They aren’t necessarily standing out like the favorites. While there will always be characters like Negan and Alpha, there are many more forgettable characters within the undead world.

The newest issue of The Walking Dead is trying to remedy this problem.

Introducing Princess To The World

IGN writes:

Issue 171 “introduces “Princess,” the flamboyantly dressed character on the cover. Her personality immediately proves to be as flashy as her outfit, as Princess is all too happy to jabber away at the bemused Michonne and her search party.”

“If nothing else, there’s little chance of Princess getting lost in the shuffle or failing to stand out from the rest of the cast. As for whether Princess will emerge as a truly nuanced and compelling character, that remains to be seen.”

“In some ways, Kirkman and Adlard seem to be trying a little too hard with this one. Her chatty personality plays to the worst aspects of Kirkman’s writing, resulting in a sea of word balloons that slow down the flow of the story without really enhancing the character in any meaningful way…”

Paying Tribute To George Romero

Regardless of whether or not fans are immediately drawn to Princess, it’s clear that Robert Kirkman wants her to stick around. In addition to this new character, this is also the issue that played homage to the late George Romero.

Robert Kirkman wrote a letter in the back of the comic saying how much Romero’s work meant to him as a boy and even later in life. In fact, some special editions of this new comic (which just came out) are selling for over $100 online.
