GrokNation Turns Two
Mayim Bialik celebrated yet another career milestone this week as her blog GrokNation turned two years old. Mayim posted an Instagram photo with a colorful birthday cake and fun hats. She wrote, “GrokNation is 2 years old! I can’t believe how quickly these last two years have gone by.”
The name for Groknation comes from the word “Grok” which means “to understand something intuitively or by empathy.” Mayim Bialik founded the website in 2015 and used it to speak out about what she’s passionate about. The site is divided into sections including News, Hollywood, Parenting, Women, Culture, and Faith. However, the topics typically overlap- like when Mayim comments on Hollywood’s fascination with the female form, or when Mayim talks about how her Jewish faith affects her political views.
The website states, “GrokNation is an online community for people of all ages and backgrounds to dive deep into conversations on contemporary issues. Founded by actress-neuroscientist-mom Mayim Bialik, GrokNation presents issues in an accessible, relatable and unapologetically nerdy way.”
Mayim isn’t the only writer on the project. While she is editor in chief, she’s also hired a whole host of other women to write for the site. One of the site’s writers, Esther D. Kustanowitz, chronicled some of her favorite pieces in celebration of the site’s birthday.
Long Lasting Impact
Some of the highlighted articles from the site’s past included Election Season: 5 Ways To Stay Sane, and The Trouble With Trump’s Tweets And What The GOP Should Do About Them.
The site had a hay day with election season. In their 5 Ways To Stay Sane article they advised women to take breaks from watching the news and shelter themselves in a way. They also suggested staying positive, listening to different view points, and taking action.
Mayim is a very successful actress, celebrity personality, and now writer. It will be interesting to see where this website takes her.
