At this year’s The Big Bang Theory comic con panel, there were quite a few revelations made about what goes on behind the scenes of television’s best comedy. One, in particular, shocked fans and left Johnny Galecki a bit flustered.
The Big Bang Comic Con Panel
At this year’s Comic Con in San Diego, the cast of TBBT gathered with their producers and writers to talk about all things TBBT. Many revelations came to light- including that Kevin Sussman doesn’t know anybody’s name on set, and that Kaley and Johnny once had a lovers quarrel at a previous Comic Con.
One of the most interesting tidbits that came to light involved the casting of the iconic role of Sheldon Cooper. One eager fan asked the panel if after ten years of playing the same character they ever wished to switch places with a fellow actor. Kevin Sussman said he’d always wanted to play Wolowitz- joking that he’d like to be the man of the house for once and not the third wheel.
It was then that a producer chimed in and explained that Johnny Galecki was offered the part of Sheldon Cooper first, but that Johnny declined and requested to play Leonard instead. Why would Johnny pass up such an iconic role?
He Wanted To Get The Girl
Johnny had explained at an earlier time that wanting to play Leonard had to do with the character’s type. He said, “It was a very selfish request on my part. I hadn’t been able to traverse those stories of the heart. I’ve often been cast as the best friend or the gay assistant of whatever character got to explore those relationships. I said I’d rather play this guy, who seems to have a future of romantic triumphs and difficulties.”
It seems everything turned out the way it’s supposed to be. Now it’s really hard to imagine Big Bang Theory without Jim Parsons playing Sheldon and Johnny playing Leonard. Could you picture the actors switching up their roles on TBBT?
