One of the most popular Disney Channel original movies in years is finally getting a sequel. We’ve got your first look at the cast of the upcoming film, Descendants 2!
The Children of All Your Disney Favorites
Descendants was a 2015 Disney Channel original movie. It featured the children of famous Disney animated villains adjusting to life outside of the island prison they called home.
Kenny Ortega directed and choreographed the musical movie. Ortega is well known for directing the popular film Dirty Dancing and the High School Musical franchise. Singer and actress Kristin Chenoweth appeared as Maleficent in the film.
Other cast members included:
- Dove Cameron as Mal, the daughter of Maleficent (Sleeping Beauty);
- Cameron Boyce as Carlos, son of Cruella de Vil (101 Dalmations);
- Booboo Stewart as Jay, the son of Jafar (Aladdin);
- Sofia Carson as Evie, daughter of the Evil Queen (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs);
- Mitchell Hope as Prince Ben, son of Belle and the Beast (Beauty and the Beast);
- Sarah Jeffery as Princess Audrey, daughter of Princess Aurora (Sleeping Beauty);
- Brenna D’Amico as Jane, daughter of the Fairy Godmother (Cinderella);
- Zachary Gibson as Doug, the son of Dopey (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs);
- Jedidiah Goodacre as Prince Chad Charming, son of Cinderella (Cinderella); and
- Dianne Doan as Lonnie, daughter of Fa Mulan (Mulan).
The Descendants Story Continues
The movie was a smash hit, and toys and merchandise are still lining the store shelves today. A CGI-animated spin-off series, Descendants: Wicked World premiered later in 2015. Season two will begin later this fall.
Descendants: The Isle of the Lost and Descendants: Return to the Isle of the Lost are two prequel novels by Melissa de la Cruz.
Descendants 2 will premiere sometime in the summer of 2017. Kenny Ortega is returning to choreograph and direct the sequel. Writers Josann McGibbon and Sara Parriott are also returning to write the new movie. And yes, Kristin Chenoweth will return as Sleeping Beauty‘s Maleficent.
Most of the original cast is also returning, though Sarah Jeffrey will not return in the role of Princess Audrey. New cast members include China Anne McClain as Uma, daughter of Ursula (The Little Mermaid). Thomas Doherty also stars as Harry, the son of Peter Pan‘s Captain Hook.

The story continues as Ben (Mitchell Hope), who is now the King ofAuradon, Mal (Dove Cameron), Evie (Sofia Carson), Carlos(Cameron Boyce) and Jay (Booboo Stewart), as they’re trying to balance between their wicked roots and their newfound life at Auradon Prep. New threats emerge in the form of Uma (China Anne McClain), daughter of Ursula, Harry (Thomas Doherty), son ofCaptain Hook, Gil (Dylan Playfair), son of Gaston and Dizzy (Anna Cathcart) daughter of Drizella Tremaine and granddaughter of Lady Tremaine.
