Ratings Dips, Rumors, And More

Duck Commander | Photo Credit Instagram After 11 seasons, Duck Dynasty finally went off the air despite having a five-year run as the most-watched nonfiction series in cable history. Some point to the dip in ratings coupled with the cast’s hectic schedules as the culprit behind the cancellation.

In 2013, Duck Dynasty actually beat out the American Idol finale and then the following year, the show broke four more records. However, the controversy surrounding the show continued during the run.

Some of this revolved around Phil Robertson’s comments to GQ when he was asked about homosexuality and the bible. Which surprised no one.

Fox News writes:

“In Dec. 2013, family patriarch Phil Robertson was suspended by A&E after he made offensive comments during an interview with GQ. He was eventually reinstated and continued to appear on the show, but some viewers stopped tuning in. Only 4.6 million viewers watched the show’s sixth season premiere.”

“A wedding episode helped the show rebound slightly in 2015, but the downward trend continued for the most part, and Season 10 premiered to just 1.3 million viewers.”

“Meanwhile, the cast members got increasingly busy outside of the A&E show, and it was apparent they had plenty of business opportunities that did not involve the declining show.”

Books, Speeches, And More

Willie and Korie’s daughter, Sadie Robertson, continues to be in the news and does speaking tours, regularly sharing her views on faith and family. She also participated in Dancing with the Stars and even made a movie cameo in I’m Not Ashamed.

Her dad, Willie, did some campaigning for President Donald Trump and wrote a book, alongside Uncle Si, Miss Kay, and John Luke, who also published books due to the success of the show.

A&E officially announced, “After 5 years, 130 episodes and one of the biggest hits in the history of cable, the Robertson family and A&E jointly decided that Duck Dynasty, the series, will come to an end after this season.”
