Jase Robertson made the unconventional decision not to have a sip of alcohol until he was 30 years old. The Robertsons are known for their conservative Christian views and family values. Some of them drink and some don’t, but none endorse partying til all hours or getting drunk.

However, that hasn’t always been the case. Both Phil and Si Robertson have admitted to struggling with alcoholism in the past. Alan Robertson and his little brother Jep have also recounted their struggles with substance abuse. It seems the Robertson men have had a hard time with self-discipline.

Miss Kay has been very honest about her decision to stay with Phil through his dark days. She said, “The drinking got worse. And I knew then but I didn’t want to believe it; [he] was running around on me. And what I would tell my boys all the time is, ‘That’s not your daddy. That’s the devil in your daddy.”

After seeing all of these men struggle with alcohol, Jase decided he wanted no part of it. He told the press, “I’ve never been high or drunk in my life. As much as I would like to say it was a spiritual decision, it was really a decision I made from monitoring my dad when he rented the bar and the things that happened and it made me uncomfortable and I thought, ‘Whatever they’re doing, I’m just not going to do that…”

Jase decided to take drastic measures in order to avoid his father’s mistakes. He says, “I made a decision to wait before I drank any alcohol till I was around 30 because I just thought, ‘I want to be mature enough to exert self-control.’ Now I’ll have an occasional drink. It’s not something that I’m into and I just don’t have a problem.”

Jase is thankfully he made the decision, and to this day would do it all over again. Do you think Jase Robertson did the right thing by waiting so long to have a drink?

Great decision and self control. I think that was a very mature decision for a boy to make. You are a special person. God was in control then and now. I pray He continues to bless you and your family. I miss watching your show. It was a blessing.
