Choose Your Character

Halloween is a great time to pretend to be someone you’ve always wanted to be your entire life!  When choosing which Duck Dynasty cast member to portray, consider these three elements: Age, Beard length, and Personality!

It’s All in the Beard

All of the men in the Robertson family have famous beards covering their entire face!  The oldest men in the family have grey beards, and the younger generation have darker grey ones.  Decide whether you’d like to be a founding member of the family, or a fresh and young face in the Robertson clan.

Beard length is also a big deal!  Phil Robertson, the leader and original Duck Commander, has a long beard hitting him mid chest.  Si Robertson’s tends to be shorter, but just as thick!  Willie, and Jase have mid-neck length beard, and Jep tends to let his hair hang long and free!

The last factor is personality.  Choose a cast member who best fits you!  If you tend to be serious and no-fuss you’re a shoe-in for Phil!  Are you always pranking your brothers?  You’re definitely a Jase!  Like the take charge? Willie is perfect for you.  Baby of the family?  Jep Robertson’s your guy.  You could even depict non-Robertson family members, like Godwin or Mountain Man.  If you’re going in a large group, you can each choose a character and wear name tags or accessories to distinguish yourselves!  The cast of Fox and Friends took advantage of this group costume opportunity by all wearing beards over their business wear!

DesignDazzle.com has a great How-To article on at home beard making.  You can use all sorts of material- felt, fake fur, cut up wigs, even brown or grey fabric.  Make sure to cut out a hold for your mouth!  Attach the material to a bandana for easy fastening.

Depending On your character selection you’ll also need particular accessories.

A Si Robertson costume isn’t complete without a plastic blue cup!  Si has famously said, “My mama sent me that to me when I was in Vietnam—she put it in a boot and then put two jars of jalapeno peppers in each boot. I love my jalapeno peppers.”  This little guy makes an adorable Uncle Si!

If you’re Willie you’ll need a American flag bandana! There are many available at SpiritHalloween.com but you can also make your own by dying or painting a white piece of scrap fabric.

Finish your outfit with any sort of camoflauge, hunter green, or Duck Commander gear!  These men almost never leave the house without their outdoor and hunting gear on!  Have fun this Halloween, and be creative with your Duck Dynasty themed costume!
