Earlier this year, Disney made a shocking announcement. They were ending their popular Disney Infinity video game series and figures.

It came as a massive blow to fans. Disney Infinity had been a successful part of the recent toys-to-life trend. Skylanders started the idea and Nintendo even joined the party with their popular Amiibo figures.

The appeal of Disney Infinity was the massive number of characters and franchises. Not only did you have characters was modern and classic animated hits. You also had figures based on Marvel and Star Wars.

Unfortunately, now that Disney Infinity is no more, all of the figures that were planned for release will never see the light of day. But thanks to some digging by journalists and some generous developers, we do have a look at what might have been.

Doctor Strange

This November, Marvel will introduce its latest superhero to theaters. Doctor Strange is a new kind of hero to the Marvel universe. He uses magic to defeat the evils of a mystical realm.

Now we know there would also have been a Disney Infinity Doctor Strange figure to tie into the film. Based on the concept art, the figure would have closely resembled actor Benedict Cumberbatch. The now defunct figure is striking a cool, spell-casting pose. It’s a shame we’ll never get our hands on this one.

Peter Pan

There was also a new Peter Pan figure in the works. Featuring Peter calling out to his fellow Lost Boys, it bears a striking resemblance to the classic Disney character.

Jafar

Based on the villain from the Disney animated classic, Aladdin. This now dead figure features a grand version of Jafar at his most evil.

Moana

This one in particular is painful because it was more than a figure. There was actually an entire playset in the works based on the upcoming Disney film, Moana. Figures would likely have included Moana herself alongside the demigod, Maui.

Screenshots for the cancelled minigame show a cool island adventure. It resembles a Disney take on the Nintendo favorite, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

The Star Wars figures were favorites for many Disney Infinity players. So it’s no real surprise to learn that new figures based on the upcoming Star Wars film were coming. We don’t know exactly which characters would’ve been represented. It has been confirmed, though, that plans were in place for Rogue One figures.

Giant-Sized Figures

There are also reports that Disney was planning to introduce new 12-inch Disney Infinity figures. They would’ve been based on popular characters and had new features. The figures would have lit up and had much more detail. They also would’ve behaved differently in the game.

At $45 each, a whole host of characters were planned. Buzz Lightyear, Elsa, Hulk, Hulkbuster, Jack Skellington, and Darth Vader would’ve been among the first.

Disney Infinity 4.0

Following the release of the first three games, a new version was planned for 2017. It would’ve featured new figures and material from several new films. Cars 3, Star Wars VIII, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Coco, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, and Thor: Ragnarok would all have been represented.

In addition, a new story mode would have been added to the Toy Box mode. It would have allowed players to take characters from different franchises and see them intermingle. Alas, it will never come to pass.
